Zakarpatye Uzhgorod ( Uzhgorod Castle )

In the lower flow of the mountain river Uzh which runs through a beautiful valley lies an ancient town Uzhgorod on both its banks. It has more than 1000-year old history.

For these long centuries the ancient castle has been its guard which is located on one of the hills of the right bank of the river. We can judge by the archeological excavations that the building was constructed in the middle of the 13 th century. Documents are a testimony of this. Nowadays in the castle there is a regional ethnographical museum of Zakarpatye where a rich material of the archeological excavations conducted since the middle of the 19 th century is collected.

Mukachevski castle.

In the south-west of Mukachevo in the suburb of Palanok there is a lonely hill - Zamkovaya mountain, topped with the towers of the thick and glorious medieval castle. Mukachevski castle experienced many things.

People talked about the bravery and high spirit of the castle with respect in the capitals of the largest European countries in 17 th century. Princes and kings fought for the right to own it. It was also known as the most severe prison of Austrian empire. Nowadays being transformed into the historical architectural monument, the castle stands above Latoriza as the symbol of local people’s high spirit and talent, rich history and culture.

The national natural park “Sinevir”

The birth of the national natural park “Sinevir” is connected with the mountain lake of the unique beauty. Sinevir is the largest and one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Carpathians.

The water in the lake is so clear that you can see the bottom.

In 1989 the national park Sinevir was created in this place. You will find yourself in the corner of the virgin nature and see the beauty of tall slim beeches which are several hundred years old.

Here you can meet many rare species and about 90 kinds of rare and disappearing plants registered in the Red book. In the park area there is a famous spherical bog Glukhania. Not far from the lake on the River Chernaya there is a unique Museum of the woods and driving.

Beregovo - the excursion to thermal waters.

One of the wonders of Beregovo region is thermal mineral springs which have curative properties and can cure 86 known diseases.

Thermal springs in Beregovo are a big pool in the open air. The water is +34C. Who will refuse bathing in a warm water of the thermal springs in the open air especially in winter?

“Shipot” waterfall

“Shipot” is thought to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Zakarpatye. The water is falling down like numerous picturesque cascades fascinating tourists. It begins in the high Borzhavskiye polonines.

In spring due to melted water the waterfall is especially beautiful. It is 14m high.

The waterfall has one more pacularity: once a year crowds of people from different countries gather here to take part in the festival of hippy which has been held since 1993.

It holds other social events such as the Day of children, the beauty contest “Miss Shipot” and the most grandiose event - the celebration of Ivana Kupala.

“The valley of narcisses” - Khust town

Unique place in Ukraine where there are natural thrickets of a narcissus. Similar thrickets, but the smaller area, have remained in few places - the Alpes, Romania, some Balkan countries. Mass flowering of plants in April - May leaves at seen this fine show unforgettable impressions.

Winogradovo - excursion in wine cellars

Zakarpatski region is the recognized centre of wine production. We have to admit that wines of Zakarpatye have the same high taste quality as other European brand’s products.

You can estimate the quality of Zakarpatye wines going on the excursion to the wineries of Winogradovo - the most ancient wine production town with its old traditions and wonderful architectural monuments and where you will be offered various kinds of wine of different age.
